Three outstanding female toxicologists were recognized with SOT awards this year. The recipients were Dr. Linda Birnbaum, for the Distinguished Toxicology Scholar Award, Dr. Meryl Karol, the Founders Award, and Dr. Debra Laskin, the Education Award.
In May 2014, the Women in Toxicology (WIT) Special Interest Group started a fundraising campaign for our new “Celebrating Women in Toxicology Award Endowment Fund." This award was inspired and initiated by a generous donation of $8000 from the estate of Ms. Anne Wolven Garrett by Mrs. Shawn Lamb.
Every year the pool of applicants for the four Women in Toxicology (WIT) Special Interest Group (SIG) awards (Mentoring Award, Vera W. Hudson and Elizabeth K. Weisburger Scholarship Fund Student Award, Graduate Student Achievement Award, and Postdoctoral Fellow Achievement Award) continues to grow.
Following a very successful inaugural Mentoring Breakfast in San Francisco in 2012, the 2nd Annual Mentoring Breakfast will be held this year in San Antonio.
