Learn, Connect, and Network during the Virtual Annual Meeting and ToxExpo, March 12–26, 2021

I am pleased to announce that the Virtual 2021 SOT Annual Meeting and ToxExpo will occur March 12–26, 2021. With live, semi-live, and on-demand offerings, attendees will have access to 70+ Scientific and Featured Sessions, dedicated networking spaces to connect with friends and colleagues, and service and product providers through the ToxExpo exhibits.

The SOT Virtual Meeting will capture all the opportunities, activities, and scientific presentations that are hallmarks of the Society’s annual event. This includes creating areas where attendees can relax and connect, incorporating live chats into Scientific Sessions, providing on-demand presentations, and more. In the coming weeks, we will provide more details about how these various interactive features will work and what attendees can expect from the Virtual SOT Annual Meeting platform.

The 2021 scientific program—which will be unveiled later this month—will be filled with innovative research and will explore important topics in toxicology. This content will be presented in approximately five-hour time blocks each day, which will include an hour-long Featured Session, 165-minute concurrent Scientific Sessions, 80- to 90-minute concurrent Scientific and Exhibitor-Hosted Sessions, Poster Sessions, and time for networking and visiting with exhibitors. Meanwhile, Fridays are being reserved exclusively for Continuing Education courses. This schedule has been developed with care to allow members and others from across the globe to participate simultaneously, and day lengths have been shortened to reduce any online fatigue or frustration.

Because the Virtual Annual Meeting and ToxExpo will include so many aspects of the in-person event, as well as the bonuses of on-demand viewing and no travel and hotel expenses, the registration fees and deadlines for the Virtual Annual Meeting are the same as the 2020 Annual Meeting registration fees. Staging a quality virtual meeting comes with a cost—because of the costs of the virtual meeting platform, A/V staff to produce the meeting, and SOT staff efforts in preparing for and running the meeting—but we are doing everything we can to keep expenses down. General registration for the 2021 Annual Meeting and ToxExpo has reopened, and registration for the Continuing Education courses will be available when the scientific program schedule is announced later this month.

I know that the Virtual 2021 Annual Meeting and ToxExpo will not be the same as an in-person gathering, but it will represent the best of SOT: cutting-edge toxicology, world-class researchers, expert service providers, and a supportive community of friends and colleagues.
