The National Academies of Sciences is hosting a workshop from December 1 to December 3, 2021, addressing “The Role of Companion Animals as Sentinels for Predicting Environmental Exposure Effects on Aging and Cancer Susceptibility in Humans.” Taking place at the Keck Center in Washington, DC, the event “will examine the potential role of companion animals as sentinels of relevant, shared environmental exposures that may affect human aging and cancer,” according to the workshop web page.
The National Academies have issued a call for abstracts for a poster session that will be held in conjunction with the workshop. The call for posters specifies that the abstracts submitted should “highlight opportunities and challenges for using this novel translational approach to exposure science as a way to accelerate the knowledge turn in this evolving field.” They also “should reflect research or programs involving the One Health movement, the use of companion animals as biomonitors, biomarkers of aging and exposure and the use of biosensors, as well as bioethical considerations and other related topics.” Early career investigators and researchers from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to submit abstracts for consideration.
The abstract submission period opened on May 3, 2021, and will close on October 1, 2021. Authors whose abstracts are accepted for the session will receive confirmation of acceptance on October 15.
