SOT just completed a special election to fill a vacant Council position and is pleased to announce that Sue Marty, PhD, DABT, has joined the SOT Council as a Councilor. Thank you to the SOT voting members who participated in this special election.
Sue Marty, PhD, DABT
Sue Marty, PhD, DABT, has been elected to serve as an SOT Councilor for the 2021–2023 term. Dr. Marty joined the Dow Chemical Company in Toxicology and Environmental Research and Consulting (TERC) in 1997, working for many years in Dow’s toxicology laboratory and conducting studies in developmental and reproductive toxicology (DART), endocrine disruption, and neurotoxicology. Currently, Dr. Marty serves as the Science Director in toxicology at Dow, where she works with multidisciplinary teams to develop science strategy and investigate toxicological issues related to human health and the environment. She has served on numerous committees, including the US EPA Chartered Science Advisory Board and the United Nations Environment Programme Advisory Group on Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals. Other international committees on which Dr. Marty is active include the OECD Working Group of the National Coordinators of the Test Guidelines Programme (WNT), the OECD Developmental Neurotoxicity Expert Group, and the OECD Endocrine Disruptor Testing and Assessment Advisory Group.
Dr. Marty just completed a term on the SOT Scientific Program Committee and has served in various leadership roles for SOT Component Groups, including as President of the Michigan Regional Chapter and Councilor for the Neurotoxicology Specialty Section. She currently holds memberships in the In Vitro and Alternative Methods Specialty Section, Michigan Regional Chapter, Neurotoxicology Specialty Section, and Reproductive and Developmental Toxicology Specialty Section.
“My goal for SOT is to support the Society’s mission for education, training, collaboration, and outreach,” says Dr. Marty about what she would like to accomplish as a Councilor. “Throughout my career, I have learned a great deal through interactions with contract researchers, industry, regulatory, and academic scientists. As a Councilor, I will look for opportunities to promote greater interaction across these sectors as well as with scientists from related disciplines, as I believe that sharing perspectives will engage and grow SOT members.”
