Impact the field of toxicology by promoting toxicology as a career, either in your region or around the world with ToxScholar Outreach Grants from SOT.

International ToxScholar Outreach Grants. The International ToxScholar Outreach Grant provides up to $1,250 for expenses related to presentations to undergraduate and graduate students with preference for countries where toxicology is under resourced. Deadline for 2012–2013 applications is October 9, 2012. A Communiqué article featured the three toxicologists who received this support in 2011.Three scientists were selected for 2012 funding and are preparing for their trips as identified below.

  • Patrick Allard, Harvard Medical School, visits to Addis Ababa University in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and the University of Nairobi in Nairobi, Kenya
  • Joseph P. Bressler, Kennedy Krieger Institute, visit to African Institute of Biomedical Science & Technology, Harare, Zimbabwe
  • James E. Klaunig, Indiana University, visit to University of Iban, Iban, Nigeria

Domestic ToxScholar Outreach Grants. There is no deadline for Domestic ToxScholar applications, but funds are limited. These grants support travel and expenses up to $500 for toxicologists visiting undergraduate institutions. Applicants establish a connection with a host faculty member at the institution to plan for an effective visit. SOT resources include Introductory Toxicology slides, which can be the start for your presentation and career brochures. These visits are sponsored by the Education Committee and the Committee on Diversity Initiatives; the latter support programs at undergraduate institutions with a high proportion of students from groups underrepresented in the sciences.

More information, applications, reports from previous visits, and other details are available at the ToxScholar webpage.
