The Society bestows many prestigious awards to outstanding investigators every year to honor those colleagues who are at the forefront of toxicology and deserve to be recognized for their achievements. And I am pleased to announce that the 2021 SOT Awards Season has officially begun!

Each of these awards has individual criteria, allowing for a robust pool of candidates who have made notable contributions to toxicology across career levels and specialties. Awards are available through SOT Committees, Component Groups (Regional Chapters, Special Interest Groups, and Specialty Sections), the SOT Endowment Fund, and supporting companies. You are encouraged to nominate your deserving colleagues for these honors or to apply. The deadline for many SOT Award applications is October 9, but deadlines vary, so please review each award description carefully as you prepare your nomination or application.

While reviewing the award descriptions, remember that in addition to searching for an award by name, awards also can be sorted by Audience or Category for a more filtered search experience.

Many SOT Awards, including Graduate Student Travel Support, also require the applicant to submit an abstract for the upcoming Annual Meeting. As a reminder, the abstract submission deadline for the 2021 SOT Annual Meeting has been extended to December 1, 2020, so please bear this in mind when preparing your application materials.

Also, to further diversify the pool of awardees, last year, the Awards Committee introduced a “grace period” that gives preference to nominees who have not received one of the following SOT Awards in the past two years: Achievement Award, Arnold J. Lehman Award, Distinguished Toxicology Scholar Award, Education Award, Enhancement of Animal Welfare Award, Founders Award, Leading Edge in Basic Science Award, Toxicologist Mentoring Award, Merit Award, Public Communications Award, Translational Impact Award, Translational/Bridging Travel Award, and Undergraduate Educator Award.

We look forward to receiving your nominations and applications for the 2021 SOT Awards. If you have any questions about preparing award materials, please contact SOT Headquarters.
