Tox ShowDown 2015: 10 Months and Counting—Be a Contestant

By Archive User posted 06-06-2014 11:42

Yes, yes, we know that the 2014 Society of Toxicology (SOT) Annual Meeting just concluded, but before you know it, it will be March 2015, and the San Diego meeting will be upon us. So act now; volunteer to be a contestant for the 2015 ShowDown, brought to you by the Graduate Student Leadership Committee (GSLC).

Can you answer a question like the following?

What is the name of the organization, headquartered in The Hague, which won the 2013 Nobel Peace Prize, and has been cataloging and monitoring the destruction of all of Syria’s chemical weapons?

If so, sign up immediately. If you haven’t the faintest idea about the answer, we want you anyway because there are likely many other toxicology questions related to current events, science, history, and culture that you do know the answers to.

A highlight of the last three SOT Annual Meetings, Tox ShowDown is typically held on Tuesday evening of the meeting week. As a contestant, you will be assigned to one of three teams—the Endocrine Disruptors, the Free Radicals, or the Toxic Metabolites. We have a cash bar and prizes aplenty, and the contestants and audience are assured a rollicking good time. Send an e-mail expressing your interest to GSLC  Chair Alessandro Venosa.

You won’t regret it.

And for those of you who can’t bear the suspense, the answer is OPCW (Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons).
