This webinar aims to give the SOT community, especially postdocs and graduate students, insights into the impact of science and research on policy on the local and national levels. This event will be split between a structured orientation for the first part and a panel discussion for the second part.
Part 1: Dr. Julianne McCall will give a seminar presentation focusing on the general orientation and overview of science and how it impacts policies and opportunities for them to get involved through fellowships, community engagements, and more.
Part 2: Six panelists with various science backgrounds who are currently working in policy and legislative sectors will help participants understand how their science skills can be applied to opportunities geared to policy and advocacy work. Participants will hear from experts currently working and involved in science policy, communication, diplomacy, and advocacy.
Each panelist will give a brief description of their background, how to get involved in science policy, and expectations for participants interested in their area of policy work. This webinar will conclude with a question-and-answer session open to all participants.
