The Office of the Secretary for the US Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is accepting application submissions (Federal Register Notice) from qualified individuals who wish to be considered for membership on the National Preparedness and Response Science Board (NPRSB). Known previously as the National Biodefense Science Board, seven members have membership expiration dates of December 31, 2014, and seven new voting members will be selected from industry, academia, practicing healthcare, pediatrics, and organizations representing appropriate stakeholders.
The NPRSB originally was authorized under the Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Act in 2006. The Board provides expert advice and guidance to the Secretary on scientific, technical, and other matters of interest to the US DHHS regarding current and future chemical, biological, nuclear, and radiological agents, whether naturally occurring, accidental, or deliberate. The Board also provides advice and guidance to the Secretary and/or the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response on other matters related to public health emergency preparedness and response.
SOT members should submit a 300 word narrative overview of why they are especially qualified to serve as a member of the NPRSB. In addition to the narrative, a one-page biography, full curriculum vitae or resume (limited to 35 pages including publications), and letters of support and/or references should be provided to Marcia Lawson by Wednesday, June 4. A subcommittee of SOT Council will review the nominations and forward on to the US DHHS those applications the Council members feel can best serve on this Board.
Thank you for participating in this importance process.
