ToxSci Editor-in-Chief Gary W. Miller noted in this issue: "I continue to receive feedback about the recent editorial on the challenges facing young investigators in toxicology. Some of the comment reinforce the ongoing concerns over the state of funding and reflect a state of despair and uncertainty, but for the most part, the trainees have indicated that they enjoyed being treated to a bit of realistic optimism. The trainees are well aware of the challenges, but clearly hungry for a modicum of encouragement. I would like to reiterate that as mentors we must continue to direct our support and enthusiasm toward our trainees and equip them with the tools that will increase the likelihood of success in whatever endeavor they choose to pursue. One of those tools is keeping up with the scientific literature, and I can think of no better way than to look inside ToxSci for the best original research in the field of toxicology."
