The Society of Toxicology (SOT) has learned of the recent passing of Full International member Cliff Elcombe, PhD, on August 25, 2016, following a short illness. He joined SOT in 1999 and was a member of the Carcinogenesis and Mechanisms Specialty Sections. Dr. Elcombe was the co-founder and Research Director of CXR Biosciences Ltd. and a faculty member the Biomedical Research Centre, Ninewells Hospital and Medical School, University of Dundee, Scotland. His research interests were focused on understanding mechanisms of target organ toxicity thereby facilitating scientifically based risk assessment. He had long-standing research interests in non-genotoxic carcinogenicity and the development of in vitro methods for prediction of toxicity and hazard assessment.
