Message from SOT Members Linda Birnbaum and John Bucher on Impact of ICCVAM Report

SOT members Linda S. Birnbaum, SOT Past President and Director, National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) and National Toxicology Program (NTP), and John R. Bucher. Associate Director, NTP, provided an introduction to the ICCVAM 2014-2015 Biennial Progress Report, which is now available on the NTP website. NIEHS supports ICCVAM as a member agency through the NTP Interagency Center for the Evaluation of Alternative Toxicological Methods (NICEATM).

They noted that “The purpose of the Interagency Coordinating Committee for the Validation of Alternative Methods (ICCVAM) is to promote safety and testing methods that protect human health and the environment by replacing, reducing, and refining animal-based test methods.... Development, acceptance, and implementation of non-animal testing approaches are poised to become central themes in toxicology over the next few years, and NICEATM and ICCVAM are positioned to play key roles." For additional information, please visit the NTP website.
