US EPA Proposed Rule on Strengthening Transparency in Regulatory Science: Comment Period Extended, Public Hearing Announced

On April 30, 2018, the US Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) proposed a rule titled Strengthening Transparency in Regulatory Science, and the Society of Toxicology has submitted comments requesting removal of a specific reference to our Risk Assessment Specialty Section and emphasizing the importance of incorporating, rather than restricting, the best available science in the decision-making process.

A recent Federal Register notice announced that the US EPA has now extended the comment period on the proposed rule, which was scheduled to close on May 30, 2018, until August 16, 2018. The US EPA also announced a public hearing to be held for the proposed rule on July 17, 2018, in Washington, DC. The US EPA is making these changes in response to public requests for an extension of the comment period and for a public hearing.

Written comments must be received on or before August 16, 2018, and the US EPA has established a docket for the proposed rulemaking.  The Docket ID No. is EPA–HQ–OA–2018–0259. Submit your comments, identified by the appropriate Docket ID, to the Federal eRulemaking Portal. Follow the online instructions for submitting comments. Once submitted, comments cannot be edited or withdrawn.

For additional information regarding submitting comments and the hearing, please refer to the Federal Register notice.
