SOT offers many prestigious awards that recognize toxicologists for their work, and the 2020 SOT awards season formally opened on July 1, 2019. You are encouraged to submit a nomination or an application for an award. Award nominations and applications are due by October 9, 2019, for awards overseen by the Awards Committee—other award deadlines vary.
Two new developments are in place this year for the awards process. First, a new award, the Toxicologist Mentoring Award, will be bestowed in 2020. Additionally, the Awards Committee is introducing a “grace period” that will give a preference to nominees who have not received one of the following SOT awards in the past two years: Achievement Award, Arnold J. Lehman Award, Distinguished Toxicology Scholar Award, Education Award, Enhancement of Animal Welfare Award, Founders Award, Leading Edge in Basic Science Award, Toxicologist Mentoring Award, Merit Award, Public Communications Award, Translational Impact Award, Translational/Bridging Travel Award, and Undergraduate Educator Award.
It is not too early to begin the submission process. Award information, criteria, and nomination or application details for all awards are available on the “Awards” web page of the SOT website. Please review the award descriptions and familiarize yourself with the requirements—and, most importantly, take the next step and nominate or apply for a 2020 SOT award.
On the “Awards” web page, you may search by award name, category, or audience for specific information on award opportunities for researchers; postdoctoral scholars; graduate students; Regional Chapter, Special Interest Group, or Specialty Section members; and more.
In addition to recognizing colleagues for their achievements, submitting a nomination offers an opportunity to collaborate with your peers. Many of the Society’s prominent awards require that two Full members of the Society provide a primary and secondary letter of nomination. However, the Awards Committee will not review additional letters of nomination beyond the required letters.
Please note: Several awards, including the Graduate Student Travel Support awards, require that the applicant submit an abstract for the Annual Meeting. All abstracts for the 2020 SOT Annual Meeting must be submitted online by October 18, 2019.

Your nominations are needed to ensure a robust pool of candidates. Please take the opportunity to recognize your colleagues.
