Recognizing that mentoring plays a key role in the career development of toxicologists, this year, SOT is introducing the SOT Toxicologist Mentoring Award to recognize a member whose advice and counsel have been instrumental in progressing the careers of toxicologists. Because mentoring takes place both within and outside the classroom or company, nominees may work in any employment sector of toxicology (e.g., government, industry, academia).
The evaluation of the nomination will be based on the quality and quantity of mentoring activities and their influence on the career development/advancement of mentees. Unlike most SOT awards, a CV is not a required component of the application for this award and will not be reviewed if submitted with the application. Instead, the application should include a brief bio-paragraph of the nominee (limited to one page in 11 pt font). Letters from current or former mentees also should be included with the nomination but should be limited to no more than four letters (including the primary) not exceeding two pages each (in 11 pt font). The primary letter should be from a colleague or peer familiar with the nominee’s overall mentoring contributions. Additional letters should describe firsthand accounts of how the nominee has influenced the careers of others and should present a reflection of the nominee’s mentoring philosophy and approach. Please note: the Awards Committee will review only up to four letters; no additional letters will be considered.
If you have benefited from a remarkable mentor in your toxicology career, please nominate them for the inaugural SOT Toxicologist Mentoring Award by visiting the “Toxicologist Mentoring Award” web page on the SOT website. Nominations will be accepted online through October 9, 2019.
