2022 Tox ShowDown

The announcement for which you all have been waiting—the world’s most challenging toxicology competition is back, and we are looking for a whole crop of test subjects contestants.

Do you have what it takes to match wits with your fellow toxicology enthusiasts? Don’t miss this opportunity to volunteer to be a contestant in the ToxShowDown, which will take place the evening of Tuesday, March 21, 2023, in Nashville, Tennessee, as part of the SOT Annual Meeting and ToxExpo! During the Tox ShowDown, three teams of three players each—the Endocrine Disruptors, the Free Radicals, and the Toxic Metabolites—battle to answer questions entirely, partly, or remotely related to toxicology. Topics cover the gamut, including the often surprising roles of toxicology in history, current events, arts, culture, and society, not to mention science. Returning for 2023 is distinguished judge Judy Zelikoff, who has agreed to impartially dispense her wisdom (but also is reportedly open to some light bribery).

Participating in the Tox Showdown is way less pressure than your average doctoral defense, slightly less dangerous than locking yourself in a walk-in freezer, and definitely equivalent to winning a Nobel Prize. Nine out of 10 previous contestants attribute their current career success to participating in the Tox ShowDown. There is a statistically significant chance that you will have an amazing time and a one in three possibility that you will be on the winning team!

We are an equal opportunity game, and everyone is welcome to apply, although we lean toward the uninitiated (contestants who haven’t yet experienced the unadulterated joy of participating in a Tox ShowDown). Shockingly, there is no application process involved. We’re looking for nine trivia-loving contestants, as well as a few alternates, who are planning to be in Nashville on Tuesday, March 21.

There’s no time to lose, so sign up online (log in to ToXchange first) or express interest in participating by emailing Cynthia Rider, the Tox ShowDown captain.
