2023 Global Senior Scholar Program Hosts Announced and Applications Have Opened for the Scholar Awards

We are pleased to announce the individuals selected as Hosts for the 2023 SOT Global Senior Scholar Exchange Program.

Aaron Barchowsky, PhD, University of Pittsburgh

The Department of Environmental and Occupational Health is in the School of Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh. Faculty and staff have been active SOT members for many decades. Currently, there are 26 primary faculty, 11 secondary faculty, 9 adjunct faculty, and 22 staff members. The department is multidisciplinary with expertise in environmental epidemiology and risk assessment, pulmonary toxicology, cardiovascular toxicology, carcinogenesis, epigenetics, air toxics, water toxics, metals toxicology, and redox biology. The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, housed in the School of Pharmacy, is a vibrant, active unit, which strives to excel in all three facets of its mission: research, teaching, and service that includes public engagement. The faculty are highly regarded internationally and publish extensively in leading journals. The long-term research interests at Dr. Manautou’s laboratory are the biochemical and molecular mechanisms of xenobiotic-induced hepatotoxicity and defining compensatory responses to liver injury that enhance tissue resistance to toxicant re-exposure. Apply for the 2023 Scholar Award

The application period is open for the Scholars who will be paired with these Hosts. Scholar applicants should be:

  • Mid-career to senior toxicologists
  • Employed in a faculty position in a qualified university in a country recognized by the SOT Global Economy Member program
  • Affiliated with an existing toxicology graduate program

Applicants also should be positioned professionally to influence toxicology training and research at the institution and in the region.

The Scholar award supports the Scholar’s attendance at the 2023 SOT Annual Meeting and ToxExpo in Nashville, Tennessee, March 19–23, 2023, and four weeks at the Host’s laboratory. The deadline for Scholars to apply is October 21, 2022.
