Graduate Students: STEP Forward with an Application by October 9

By James Luyendyk posted 10-01-2015 09:09

What do entrepreneurship, topological quantum field theories, risk communication, cytometers, and ova-achievers have in common?  All of these terms are related to training that was undertaken by SOT graduate students with Supplemental Training for Education Program (STEP) support. The next deadline is October 9, 2015.

Graduate students are encouraged to be creative in proposing an activity in which to pursue training in an identified area of professional/scientific development. Such training is necessary to achieve career goals, but outside the immediate scope of the graduate training and research program. Applications seeking an excursion to refine a dissertation project-specific technique or attendance at a professional society conference are discouraged.

The award reimburses costs of up to $1,000. The SOT Graduate Subcommittee administers this award in recognition of the diversity of preparation required for graduate students to enter the modern workforce. Awardees will provide  a brief follow-up communication on the funded experience, which will help highlight their receipt of the award and the benefits of the experience to their graduate education.

For further information, previous awards, and the application, visit the STEP web page.
