SOT Approves Two New Issue Statements on Low-Level Arsenic Exposure and the Safety of Genetically Engineered Crops

By Ronald Hines posted 12-07-2017 14:46

During the November Society of  Toxicology (SOT) Council meeting, two new SOT Issue Statements were approved and adopted:

Both statements, as with all SOT Issue Statements, are intended to offer brief, balanced presentations of the science and related issues underlying these areas of relevance to SOT and toxicology. These documents are designed to be used and shared by SOT members to help increase understanding of these important research areas.

As a companion piece to the SOT Issue Statement on the safety of genetically engineered (GE) food crops, Toxicological Sciences has published an advance access forum article that provides a review of the 20+ years of research on GE crops. This article is free to read on the ToxSci website. Remember that Full and Associate SOT members receive free online access to all ToxSci articles year round by using your SOT credentials to log into the ToxSci website.

Thank you to the writing teams who drafted these statements and to the SOT members who reviewed them and provided feedback. Your efforts on behalf of the Society are appreciated.

If you have an idea for a topic SOT should cover as an SOT Issue Statement, consult the SOT Issue Statements page for information on submitting topic ideas and the process for creating these statements.
