Around the World of Toxicology: October 2022 Partner Activities Update

A few in-person conferences and multiple virtual events are being hosted by SOT partners this October, while a few other partners have announced initiatives or programs that may be of interest to SOT members.

AAAS Science, Technology and Human Rights Conference 2022

The theme for the 2022 conference is “The Human Right to Science and Freedom of Expression.” It will take place October 17–19, 2022, in a hybrid format with individuals attending virtually and in person at the AAAS headquarters in Washington, DC.

US FDA NanoDay Symposium 2022

On Tuesday, October 11, the US Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) will host a virtual symposium to “address drug development of products that contain nanomaterials in their formulation and how the newly finalized guidance to industry for products that contain nanomaterials can be implemented in filings to the FDA.”

US FDA 12th Global Summit on Regulatory Science Annual Conference

Established and overseen by the US FDA, the Global Coalition of Regulatory Science and Research is co-hosting 12th Annual Global Summit on Regulatory Science taking place October 19–21 in Singapore. The theme for this free, in-person event is “Advances in Nanotechnology for Food and Medical Products: Innovations, Safety and Standards.”

US FDA Clinical Chemistry and Clinical Toxicology Devices Panel of the Medical Devices Advisory Committee Meeting

On October 20, the US FDA Clinical Chemistry and Clinical Toxicology Devices Panel of the Medical Devices Advisory Committee Meeting is hosting a virtual, public meeting to discuss, make recommendations, and vote on clinical information related to the AvertD Test sponsored by SOLVD Health.

US FDA Virtual Listening Session on the Regulation of Animal Foods with Certain Types of Claims

A virtual listening session on Tuesday, October 18, will focus on animal foods with specific claims, such as environmental benefits, production, and effects on the animal microbiome. The agency is especially interested in hearing comments about PPM 1240.3605, Regulating Animal Foods with Drug Claims.

Approaching Deadlines

Two programs by the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) designed to foster diversity and inclusivity in the life sciences have a November 3 deadline.

  • FASEB CARES provides financial support to alleviate financial burdens associated with caregiving, enabling FASEB society members to continue their scientific training, professional development, and career progression.
  • FASEB LEAD is a reverse mentoring program that pairs senior-level professionals with junior-level mentors to gain different perspectives of individual, group, and cultural views within the workplace and the scientific research communities.

Save the Dates

Americans for Medical Progress has opened sign-up for the annual Biomedical Research Awareness Day (BRAD) that will take place on April 20, 2023. BRAD invites individuals and organizations to plan activities to highlight the importance of animal studies in biomedical research.
