SOT is thrilled to announce the continuation of its partnership with the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science to offer two Science Communication Training Workshops in 2024. These workshops are designed to equip you with essential tools to effectively communicate your research and engage with various audiences, including the public, policymakers, and fellow scientists.

About the Workshops

SOT is committed to enhancing science communication skills among its members. The partnership with the Alan Alda Center has been instrumental in this effort. Twice a year, SOT sponsors virtual workshops titled “The Essentials,” which is the core training program of the Alda Center. Each workshop accommodates 24 participants and spans three hours.

2024 Workshop Dates

Friday, May 17
10:00 AM to 1:00 PM (US EDT, UTC -4)

Friday, October 18
10:00 AM to 1:00 PM (US EDT, UTC -4)

How to Apply

All SOT members are eligible to participate in these workshops, and spots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. To maximize your chances of securing a spot, apply by April 1 for the May workshop and September 1 for the October workshop. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis, and if a workshop reaches capacity, applicants will be placed on a waiting list for the next available session.

About the Alda Method©

The Alda Method focuses on experiential learning, guided reflection, and peer feedback to transform how participants approach communication. During the three-hour session, you will develop strategies to connect with your audience, set meaningful communication goals, and craft messages that resonate with others. This approach goes beyond simple tactics and tips, providing you with skills that are applicable to all forms of communication and topics, including science.
