On behalf of the Society of Toxicology, I would like to recognize you, alongside each SOT Postdoctoral member, as we celebrate National Postdoc Appreciation Week. The SOT postdoc community provides diverse and valuable perspectives that contribute to the advancement of toxicology. I am proud of our 400 postdoctoral scholars whose prowess and engagement enhance the Society and provide immeasurable collective value within the scientific community. To me, you represent a highly skilled group of scientists who have more value within the scientific enterprise than you likely perceive.
As part of your SOT membership, you also belong to the SOT Postdoctoral Assembly (PDA). The PDA Executive Board is an active group that organizes activities and events designed with postdocs in mind. The PDA is designed to support and accommodate the needs of our postdoctoral community and provide chances for members to engage in leadership and career development opportunities. Postdoctoral scholars also contribute to the Society by playing vital leadership roles as Representatives to SOT Committees and Component Groups (i.e., the SOT Regional Chapters, Special Interest Groups, and Specialty Sections).
The SOT Annual Meeting and ToxExpo also is elevated due to the contributions of SOT Postdoc members. From endorsing and Chairing sessions to sharing research, the meeting is the ideal venue for scientists, like yourself, who seek to present scientific progress, network, and heighten their career trajectories. I encourage you to join SOT in Nashville for our 62nd Annual Meeting and ToxExpo and to consider submitting an abstract for presentation at the meeting.
Thank you for sharing your skills, knowledge, and perspectives with the SOT community. I am pleased to extend SOT Council’s gratitude for your current and future contributions to toxicology. I offer my heartfelt congratulations on your accomplishments and join you in celebrating National Postdoc Appreciation Week.
Sincerely,
Michael Aschner, PhD, ATS
2022–2023 SOT President
