By Mindy Reynolds posted 09-08-2022 02:02 PM

SOT is coordinating a project to update online learning modules for the Toxicology Mentoring and Skills Development Training Program (ToxMSDT). The E-Learning Oversight Committee, which I chair, is seeking specific images that have not been previously published and that the owner will license to ToxMSDT for educational purposes. Most materials included in the ToxMSDT modules are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License. Third parties can use items under this license for commercial or noncommercial educational purposes, provided the images are attributed to the original owner.

Images requested include:

  • Cell undergoing apoptosis with blebbing
  • Piecemeal necrosis cross section
  • Whole liver gross anatomy
  • Fatty liver gross anatomy
  • Cirrhotic liver gross anatomy
  • Ethanol-damaged liver cross section
  • Acetaminophen-damaged liver cross section
  • Smoke-damaged lung cross section
  • Acid or base burned skin
  • Burned skin cross section

Submit high resolution JPG or PNG images to SOT staff liaison Betty Eidemiller by September 30, 2022.

The ToxMSDT program is funded by the National Institutes of Health; has six institutional partners, including SOT; and is housed at University of California Davis under Principal Investigator (PI) Wilson Rumbeiha, a long-time SOT member, while Jodi Flaws, another long-time SOT member at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, serves as the Co-PI. Through this program, 25 undergraduates are selected annually and subsequently matched with a mentor. By working with the mentor and participating in ToxMSDT activities, the students experience professional development growth and gain a deeper knowledge of toxicology and careers in the discipline. The program’s overall goal is to increase diversity in the biomedical research workforce. The online modules are included in the ToxMSDT curriculum but also are available to learners worldwide for independent use or in formal or informal education.
