2021 SOT Annual Meeting to Begin with Plenary Session Focused on Science Communication

As is fitting for a year in which science communication has received much attention and scrutiny, I am excited to announce that the 2021 Opening Plenary Session speaker is Laura Lindenfeld, PhD, the Executive Director of the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science at Stony Brook University. Since its founding more than a decade ago, the Alda Center has focused on providing scientists with the skills to communicate complex topics—to any audience!

In her presentation, titled “Blending Art and Science to Master Science Communication,” Dr. Lindenfeld will introduce the SOT Virtual Meeting attendees to the Alda Center’s unique approach to science communication, which is built on the foundations of improvisational theater. Register now to attend the Virtual 2021 SOT Annual Meeting and ToxExpo, which will include Dr. Lindenfeld’s presentation on Monday, March 15, at 10:00 am (EDT, UTC -4).

Science communication is a priority of the current SOT Strategic Plan, and I anticipate that Dr. Lindenfeld’s presentation will serve as one of many resources and opportunities that SOT will provide for SOT members wishing to enhance their communication skills.
