The Society of Toxicology (SOT) has learned of the passing of Robert A. Goyer, MD on February 21, 2017. Dr. Goyer joined the SOT in 1982 and was the 2004 recipient of the SOT Merit Award. This award is presented to a member of the Society in recognition of distinguished contributions to toxicology throughout an entire career in areas such as research, teaching, regulatory activities, consulting, and service to the Society. He also was a member of the Comparative and Veterinary, Mechanisms, and Metals Specialty Sections and the North Carolina Regional Chapter. Among his career accomplishments, he was a Professor of Pathology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Deputy Director of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences at Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. He also served two terms as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Pathology at the University of Western Ontario, London, Canada.
