On behalf of the Society of Toxicology (SOT), I am extending congratulations to those SOT members who have received the designation of Diplomate from the American Board of Toxicology (ABT) in 2016. Since 1979, ABT has evaluated and certified the expertise of toxicologists and conferred the designation of Diplomate (DABT) to those who have succeeded in meeting tested requirements. The purpose of the ABT is to encourage the study of the science of toxicology, to stimulate its advancement by establishing standards for professional practice, to prepare and administer procedures including tests for the implementation of such standards, and to confer recognition by certificates or otherwise upon those members of the profession who, measured against such standards, demonstrate competence.
