A Glance at the Newly Elected Leaders of SOT

Thanks to all voting members of SOT for your participation in selecting the Society's 2013-2014 leadership. Because of your participation in the Ballot process, we now have our officers for the coming year. Newly elected Councilors for the term that will begin May 1, 2013 include:

Peter L. Goering, Vice President-Elect  Dr. Goering, US Food and Drug Administration, was elected Secretary-Elect 2009–2010, Secretary 2010–2012, and Nominating Committee 2004–2006. He served on a number of other SOT Committees as a member and as a leader. He has been a Diplomate, American Board of Toxicology since 1994 and a Fellow, Academy of Toxicological Sciences since 2006 and a Board member from 2008–2015.He is active in research in biomarkers of cell injury in the kidney and liver, the toxicity of metals, animal models of compromised health, and the toxicology of nanomaterials.

Leigh Ann Burns Naas, Secretary-Elect. Dr. Burns Naas is Vice President of Drug Safety Evaluaton at Gilead Sciences. In terms of SOT, she has served on the Continuing Education Committee 2005–2007, Scientific Program Committee 2009–present, Specialty Section Collaboration and Communciations Group Co-Chair 2010–2012, and a number of leadership positions for the Specialty Sections, the Special Interest Groups, and Regional Chapters. She is a Diplomate of and a member of the board of Directors of the American Board of Toxicology, a Fellow of the Academy of Toxicological Sciences, and a European Registered Toxicologist (UK Register).

Myrtle A. Davis, Councilor. Dr. Davis is currently Branch Chief for Toxicology and Pharmacology in the Developmental Therapeutics Program of the Division of Cancer Diagnostics and Treatment of the Natonal Cancer Institute. She has served as a member of the SOT Membership Committee 2000–2003 and the Nominating Committee 2004–2006 as well as on other SOT Committees and as a leader for various Specialty Sections of the Society. 

John A. Wisler, Councilor. Dr. Wisler is currently a scientific director in toxiciology sciences at Amgen. He has served on the American Board of Toxicology Board of Directors and as President. He also has served as a President and Councilor on various Regional Chapters and Specialty Sections. Dr. Wisler has extensive experience working with toxicologists and toxicology projects in Asia. In terms of SOT, he served as a Councilor, Vice President, and President of the Northern California Regional Chapter, is President of the Drug Discovery Toxicology Specialty Section, and a member of other Specialty Sections.
