In late March, I wrote a blog post about the SOT endorsement of the planned March for Science in Washington, DC, and other cities, stating:
“The march is in support of science, with particular emphasis on supporting scientific research and the impartial and objective use of science in decision-making. There are few fields as critical as toxicology for informing and supporting sound policy that protects public and environmental health. Accordingly, we find the goals of the march to be consistent with SOT's mission and purpose, and we endorse the march.”
This week, SOT furthered its support of the March for Science by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the event organizers, making SOT an official partner of the march. By signing the MOU, SOT is affirming its commitment to the core principles and goals of the March for Science. All participants in the March for Science (organizations and individuals) are expected to adhere to the core principles and engage in behavior that is ethical, non-partisan, and reflects positively on the March for Science, SOT, and the scientific community.
