SOT is developing an issue statement titled “Food and Feed Safety of Genetically Engineered Food Crops.” This statement is intended to replace the existing statement “The Safety of Genetically Modified Foods Produced through Biotechnology.” As part of the development process, SOT membership has seven (7) days to provide comment and input on the draft “Food and Feed Safety of Genetically Engineered Food Crops.” All feedback should be emailed to Michelle Werts, SOT communications manager, who will compile the feedback and provide it to the statement’s Writing Team.
The “Food and Feed Safety of Genetically Engineered Food Crops” statement was developed by an SOT Council-appointed Writing Team consisting of Supratim Choudhuri, PhD, US FDA-CFSAN Office of Food Additive Safety; Bryan Delaney, PhD, DABT, ATS, DuPont Pioneer Regulatory Science and Registration; Richard E. Goodman, PhD, University of Nebraska Food Allergy Research and Resource Program; and Gregory S. Ladics, PhD, DABT, ATS, DuPont Pioneer Agricultural Biotechnology. This draft was reviewed by multiple SOT members with expertise in this area and SOT Council.
After SOT member feedback is incorporated into the draft, SOT Council will conduct a final review of the document and vote on its approval as an SOT Issue Statement, at which point the individual author names will be removed and it will become SOT’s official information on the subject.
