Poster Tours for Trainees is returning to the 2018 Annual Meeting for its seventh year. The Postdoctoral Assembly (PDA) is currently asking Full and Associate SOT members to sign up as Guides to lead poster tours to give postdoctoral scientists and graduate students an opportunity to shadow an expert toxicologist and take part in critical evaluation of cutting-edge toxicology methods and research findings in a field of their choosing. This event also provides an outstanding mentoring and networking opportunity for Guides, postdoctoral scientists, and students.
To coordinate the selection of times and topics, Guides can go to the Annual Meeting Website for an overview of the schedule of poster sessions. Guides then select the times (Monday through Wednesday) and topics they wish to cover with a group of Trainees. Graduate students and postdoctoral scientists will then sign up for a one-hour guided poster tour with an expert toxicologist in an area of interest.
At the posters you may want to:
- Share why you wanted to visit the poster.
- Discuss "the next steps" in that body of research.
- Ask the presenter questions that help illustrate outstanding features of the work.
- Introduce the participants to your expert friends as you network with them along the way.
- Discuss what participants value in the poster.
- Feel free to offer career and networking advice to participants.
Feedback from guides and participants alike has been very positive. Previous trainee participants report that the PDA-organized Poster Tours provide the opportunity not only to share in the Guide’s research interests, but also to network with the Guide’s colleagues, and benefit from career and research advice.
Now is your time to participate in this great event! Guides may sign up from now to January 26, 2018. Trainees will have the opportunity to sign up in late January and February for Poster Tours that meet their needs and interests. Email SOT Headquarters to express your interest or to ask questions.
