The July 2017, Vol. 158, Issue 1 of Toxicological Sciences includes many articles that will be of interest and importance to you. In this issue, ToxSci Editor-in-Chief Gary W. Miller provides his perspective on the importance of mentoring:

“In the USA, the National Institutes of Health are working to increase funding and opportunities for junior scientists. Although it is not clear how these strategies will be implemented, the goal is laudable. Rather than wait for funding agencies to devise plans, as mentors we must work more closely with trainees to develop their independence. Remove the cloak of secrecy to the profession, whether that be in academia, industry, government, or nonprofit. Let them participate in the processes generally limited to senior scientists. The unwritten reason that trainees receive less than ideal compensation is that they are in training with the expectation that they are going to be assisted in their career development. Let’s not forget that responsibility. I encourage you to Look Inside ToxSci for the best original research in the field of toxicology.”

Also as you Look Inside ToxSci, you will find four Editor's Highlights prepared by ToxSci Associate Editors Jeffrey M. Peters on Mouse Genetics, PPARα, and TCE, Martin van den Berg on PCBs and Developmental Neurotoxicity, Dana Dolinoy on Particulate Matter and DNA Methylation Age, and Anumantha Kanthasamy on Base Excision Repair Genes, Pesticides, and Parkinson’s.

The mission of ToxSci, the official journal of the Society of Toxicology, is to publish the most influential research in the field of toxicology.
