The Scientific Liaison Coalition (SLC) will host a webinar on February 11, 2020, entitled “Occupational Exposures and Pregnancy: A Balancing Act.” Scheduled for 11:00 am–12:00 noon (ET), this webinar will explore the effects of the workplace environment on pregnancy. Richard K. Miller—Professor of obstetrics/gynecology, pathology, and environmental medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry—will present this webinar.
This event is open to SOT members as a privilege of the Society’s membership in the SLC. A recording of the webinar will be available on the SLC website in the future.

Webinar Abstract
Women are often confronted with how the workplace exposures will impact their pregnancy and baby, yet many working women accept and do not question their working conditions and exposures until they are pregnant. The objective of this presentation is to provide working women with information to stimulate discussions with their health care providers concerning their working conditions during their routine health visits. It is hoped that this, in turn, would encourage health care providers and their company counterparts to explore the workplace conditions for every woman in her reproductive years, especially to prevent harmful exposures during pregnancy.
Such a recommendation does not exclude the male; however, the focus of this specific webinar is on women in the workplace. We will explore the history of women in the workplace, regulations, exposure assessment, and working with the patient, primary health care provider, and employer. Lessons learned will be shared via case studies presented not only for workplace exposures but also non-work exposures that may require in-depth counseling, action, and making difficult choices for the pregnant mother and her family.
SOT is a member association of the Scientific Liaison Coalition.
