Upcoming Non-SOT Meetings and Training Opportunities

Many SOT partners and groups with which the Society is affiliated, as well as government agencies, are hosting upcoming virtual meetings, webinars, and workshops that may be of interest to SOT members.

FASEB Member Virtual Conferences and Meetings

The American Society for Nutrition (ASN) is hosting Nutrition 2020 Live Online from June 1 to June 4. This free conference will feature sessions covering topics such as the gut microbiome, ’omics, chrono-nutrition, health and nutrition policy, clinical highlights, and more. Similar to SOT, the Society for Leukocyte Biology (SLB) is presenting a series of free live sessions and webinars over the coming months in lieu of its meeting. SLB will start hosting its more than 40 hours of planned scientific and professional development content in June. Visit the SLB website for schedule and registration information.

In late June and early July, the Society for Birth Defects Research & Prevention (BDRP, formerly the Teratology Society) Annual Meeting will be held virtually. The BDRP Virtual Annual Meeting will include education courses, cutting-edge scientific symposia, special lectures, and platform and poster sessions. The FASEB Science Research Conference series is conducting “The Translational Neuroimmunology Conference: From Mechanisms to Therapeutics” virtually on June 29 and June 30. Focused on addressing critical problems in neuroimmunology, the conference will feature presentations with Q&A, a virtual networking lounge, poster sessions, and more. June Events by SOT Partners

The American College of Medical Toxicology (ACMT), along with webinar partners, continues to host “Medical and Public Health Considerations of COVID-19: A Collaborative Web Series on Emerging Topics and Featuring Voices from the Front Lines.” Recordings of past webinars in the series, which began on March 25, are available on the webinar series web page, along with information on upcoming events.

In addition, ACMT and the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) are hosting the 3rd Friday Addiction Toxicology Case Conference, a webinar series exploring addiction toxicology. Details on the virtual conference, as well as slides and recordings from previous events, are available on the conference web page.

The Japanese Society of Toxicology (JSOT) has shifted its in-person 47th Annual Meeting to an online-only format, which will take place from June 29, 2020, to July 1, 2020. As noted on the meeting website, the meeting content will be distributed via livestream and prerecorded sessions, and research will be shared through ePosters. Government-Hosted Webinars, Meetings, and Conferences

The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) is hosting a variety of webinars, meetings, and conferences throughout the next month, including a lecture on June 10 by Jason West, PhD, titled “Understanding Global Climate Change and How It Affects Air Quality and Human Health,” which is part of its Climate, Environment, and Health Seminar Series. Similarly, the US Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) is conducting meetings, webinars, and virtual events throughout June. Of note for SOT members is a June 2 presentation titled “Streamlining Genetic Safety Analysis for Ex Vivo Genome Edited Cell Therapies” by 2018 SOT plenary speaker Matthew Porteus, MD, PhD. On June 2, from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm, the Mine Safety and Health Research Advisory Committee of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will host a virtual meeting that “will include discussions on mining safety and health research projects and outcomes,” as well as “an update from the NIOSH Associate Director for Mining.” Space is limited to 500 attendees for this event. Those interested in participating should contact Marie Chovanec by email or telephone at 412.386.5302 at least five days before the meeting.

Additionally, the US Environmental Protection Agency has rescheduled the four-day Toxic Substances Control Act Science Advisory Committee on Chemicals meeting to June 8–June 11. This meeting will “consider and review the draft Risk Evaluation for asbestos and associated documents.” Online registration is required to receive the webcast link and audio details, and those interested may register as a listen-only attendee anytime during the meeting.

Finally, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine Forum on Neuroscience and Nervous System Disorders and the Board on Environmental Studies and Toxicology will host a virtual event on June 25 on “Environmental Neuroscience: Advancing the Understanding of How Chemical Exposures Impact Brain Health and Disease: A Workshop.” This public workshop will examine the current and future status of the neuroscience and environmental health science realms, including an exploration of the relationship between neurotoxic exposures and neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders.
