The March 2017, Vol. 156, Issue 1 of Toxicological Sciences (ToxSci) includes many articles that will be of interest and importance to you. As you Look Inside ToxSci, take note of the editorial on Science, Societies, and Society. ToxSci Editor-in-Chief (EIC) Gary W. Miller writes that:
“Why does the Society of Toxicology exist and why do we hold meetings? Scientific societies help shape disciplines. New fields address new problems and often need new solutions. Societies help gather those interested in addressing these new questions. Societies provide an organization framework to define the field and to develop principles and ethos. Often societies publish proceedings or journals, as is the case with Toxicological Sciences. Hosting scientific meetings is also a major activity of societies. Annual meetings of scientific societies are special events. Often we get too caught up in hotel reservations, poster preparations, and meeting schedules to appreciate their importance. The sharing of data with our colleagues is an essential component of the scientific enterprise. Although we tend to rely more and more on electronic media in our daily lives, there is no substitute for the spoken word. Discussions after platform presentations, at posters, or over drinks are much more rich than email or texts. Engaging and even contentious conversations often force us to reformulate our thinking and spur new ideas.”
Also in Look Inside ToxSci, you will find four Editor's Highlights prepared by ToxSci EIC Gary Miller on Flies, Genes, and Narcotics; Associate Editors Robert L. Tanguay on Zebrafish Reporters and Liver Injury; Lucio G. Costa on Neurotoxicity and Anticancer Drugs, and Dana Dolinoy on Epigenetics and Liver Carcinogens.
The mission of ToxSci, the official journal of the Society of Toxicology, is to publish the most influential research in the field of toxicology.
