The National Postdoctoral Association (NPA) created National Postdoc Appreciation Week to recognize postdocs and their many accomplishments. While many groups of postdocs located in academic institutions, industry, or government hold events such as symposia or social gatherings, the SOT Postdoctoral Assembly (PDA) invites you to participate in our virtual gathering to support our community of scholars that spans the globe.

Join the PDA-Sponsored Webinar on Friday, September 22

On Friday, September 22 at 12:00 pm Eastern Time, the PDA is sponsoring a webinar entitled Board Certification as a Professional Toxicologist: Options, Career Benefits, and Necessary Steps.

Many postdocs have heard about the option of becoming a board-certified professional toxicologist. However, a small number of us have a clear understanding of what efforts are required to obtain such a credential, what the eligibility criteria are, and what the benefits of holding such a credential are to one’s career regardless of the chosen career path in academia, government, or industry. Of the International Union of Toxicology’s 51 member societies, approximately half support some form of certification for professional toxicologists at the national level; however, definitions and criteria can vary greatly among them. As part of the 2017 National Postdoc Appreciation Week, the SOT PDA Executive Board cordially invites all trainees and early career toxicologists to join us for a webinar, which will address these issues and guide us through the process and benefits of becoming a certified/registered toxicologist. Following a short presentation by each speaker, participants will have the opportunity to interact with panelists during a Q & A session. Pre-registration is recommended for this webinar.

Speakers:

  • Ruth A. Roberts, ApconiX
  • Curtis D. Klaassen, University of Washington
  • Vijaykumar Kale, Battelle Memorial Institute

Look for the Postdoc-Themed Blog Series All Week

Other highlights of the week include a blog series celebrating and reflecting on the postdoctoral experience. Articles will be published as SOT Communiqué blogs for all to enjoy.

Through these events, the PDA joins with the National Postdoctoral Association in focusing attention on the contributions and achievements of postdoctoral scholars. Visit the NPAW 2017 Calendar for events happening at institutions across the country. We hope that all SOT members will take time during National Postdoc Appreciation Week to acknowledge the postdocs in your communities and institutions.
