The Global Activities Endowment Fund provides scientists worldwide with opportunities to advance the science of toxicology.

In addition to numerous endowed funds administered by various component groups of the Society, there are three SOT Mission Funds administered by SOT Council that support activities and awards consonant with the Society’s strategic plan.  Today’s topic is the Global Activities Fund.

The goal of this Mission Fund is to advance the science of toxicology worldwide. The proceeds from this fund have been used to support travel fellowships for individuals from developing countries to attend the SOT Annual Meeting, in addition to key international toxicology meetings, including the Congress of Toxicology in Developing Countries (CTDC), and the International Congress of Toxicology (ICT). These travel fellowships allow scientists from around the world the opportunity to experience the amazing science that is presented at these meetings, to forge collaborations with our members, and to avail themselves of other educational activities occurring during the meetings around the world.

The importance of the various endowment funds is that they provide a reliable and consistent source of funding to support the SOT mission that does not depend on other, potentially variable income sources. In my next article, I’ll provide a brief description of the Strategic Priorities Fund, another of the SOT’s Mission Funds. If you have any questions about the Global Activities Fund, please contact me (rothr@msu.edu) or Martha Malone in the SOT Office (martha@toxicology.org).
