On August 31, 2013, the Society of Toxicology (SOT) announced the recent passing of Full International member Cliff Elcombe, PhD, on August 25, 2016, following a short illness. The announcement noted that Dr. Elcombe joined SOT in 1999 and was a member of the Carcinogenesis and Mechanisms Specialty Sections and that he was the co-founder and Research Director of CXR Biosciences Ltd. and a faculty member the Biomedical Research Centre, Ninewells Hospital and Medical School, University of Dundee, Scotland. Since then, an obituary on Cliff written by his long-term friend and colleague Lewis Smith has been posted to the British Toxicology Society website and we are sharing this tribute. It’s a superb summary—captures the essence of Cliff perfectly.
