Area Families Enjoy A Day at the Lawrence Hall of Science

Some 50 families from around the Bay area spent Saturday figuring out what Snow White, Romeo and Juliet and the Madhatter have in common at the Lawrence Hall of Science.  At the end of day, everyone solved the mystery and received certificates and smiles from the toxicologists and students of the Berkeley Toxicology Association for their efforts.  Day-long activities featured hands-on experiments that were designed to introduce toxicology and teach students about toxicologists and how they work to protect the health and safety of people, animals and the environment.  Attendees also watched a theatrical performance that was designed to reinforce that points that were made during their experiments.  Undergraduate students from the University of California-Berkeley Toxicology Association and members of the Society of toxicology worked hand-in-hand with all the participants to help them identify household hazards and toxic-look alike products, study how the various concentrations of alcohol and caffeine affect on the system, and how acid rain affects statues, buildings, and plants.
