The SOT Postdoctoral Assembly invites you to join us on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at 1:00 pm EDT for this informative webinar on the Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology (DABT) and Fellow of the Academy of Toxicological Sciences (ATS) certifications. The 80-minute session will include four speakers: Virginia Moser, PhD, DABT, Fellow ATS (US Environmental Protection Agency); Janis Hulla, PhD, DABT, ERT, Fellow-ATS (US Army Corps of Engineers); James Lamb, IV, PhD, DABT, ATS (Exponent®); and José Manautou, PhD, ATS (University of Connecticut). The webinar, which is entitlted Toxicology Board Certifications Across Sectors: The Benefits of Certification in the Job Market for Career Development, will include time for discussion and questions.

Designation as a DABT or as a Fellow of the ATS (Fellow, ATS) serves as a benchmark of professional knowledge, and can provide strong advantages in the job market for preclinical, regulatory, and consulting roles. These and other certifications support toxicology practice across all sectors, including academia, government, industry, and nonprofit organizations. Speakers will focus on: (1) the basics of the DABT and the ATS, including the pros and cons; (2) how being a DABT or Fellow of ATS has been useful in their personal career path in industry, government, and/or academia; (3) the unique opportunities afforded to them via their certification status; (4) how professional certification serves international health protection goals; and (5) advice to early career toxicologists regarding professional certification in the marketplace. Attendees will learn the benefits of pursuing a DABT or being recognized as a Fellow of the ATS, and how this may help in their unique career path.

The audience for this webinar is early-career toxicologists, including postdoctoral scientists and graduate students, interested in how a DABT or Fellow ATS recognition may assist in transitioning into industry positions, careers outside of academia, and increasing marketability across sectors in a competitive economy. A key objective of this webinar is to explain how board certification may be beneficial in establishing a toxicology career that can span multiple sectors. This session is designed to introduce what certifications are available, and how to achieve certification, and to provide early career toxicologists with career perspectives.

We hope toxicologists who are interested in establishing a new career or enhancing their current career will join us for this informative session sponsored by the SOT Postdoctoral Assembly.
