This will be the sixth webinar in the Risk Assessment Syllabus series, which began in 2021. This webinar will bring together many of the concepts covered in the prior topics to show how Reference Values (topic covered on June 4, 2024) are combined with the results from an Exposure Assessment (covered on August 3, 2023) to characterize risk. Dr. George Woodall will provide an initial presentation of the basic tenets of risk characterization and how it is conducted using the framework developed by the National Academies of Science, and as applied in the US EPA. Additional perspectives will be provided by three panelists who will cover Risk Characterization in a Regulatory Setting by Larisa Rudenko (US FDA, retired); Risk Characterization in the Occupational Setting by Scott Dotson (Insight Exposure & Risk Sciences Group); and Characterizing Risk for Emergency Response and Planning by Deb McKean (US EPA Region 8, retired) As usual in this series, a Q&A discussion will follow the presentations, which will be led by our Moderator, Dr. Kenneth Ramos (Texas A&M).
