Catching the Wave: A Preview of the 2026 Undergraduate Development Program

TheSOTInitiatives for Development and Engagement Committee (IDEC) is excited to host the2026Undergraduate Development Program in San Diego, California,March 21–23. Promising undergraduate students interested in research careers are selected to attend the program to learn about the field of toxicology and be encouraged to pursue careers in the biomedical sciences.A small number of undergraduate advisors are also selected to attendto learn more about supporting their studentsin pursuingopportunities in toxicology.

This year,IDEC will host 30 exceptionalstudentsand fiveadvisorsfrom across the US, including Puerto Rico,for the three-dayprogram.Participants in the UDP engage in presentations and a case studyfeaturing toxicological research, discover education and career opportunities in the field, and learn more about the requirements for graduate school and a research career. This year’s presenters will include SOT members Marie McGee Hargrove, Natalie Johnson, Corie Ellison, Joe Zagorski, John Wise Sr., Mindy Reynolds, and Anne Chappelle.OnMonday,the participants will engageinAnnual Meetingevents such as the Opening PlenarySession, theIn VitroLecture and Luncheonfor Students, andPosterSessions. 

On Sunday, March 22, all undergraduates who are registered for the Annual Meeting are invited tojoin fortheUndergraduate Education Program. Preregistration isrequired. 

IDEC is grateful for the many dedicated volunteers—Committee members, presenters, toxicologist host mentors, student/postdoctoral peer mentors, faculty and researchmentors,breakout room facilitators,and others who give their time so generously to support the program and inspire the next generation of young scientists. All SOT members are invited toattendtheUDP Reunionon Saturday, March 21,at the SOT Annual Meeting, which brings together currentUDPparticipants, past participants, program volunteers, and supporters.
