Register for the SOT Interview, Salary Negotiations, and Soft Skills Webinar Taking Place November 8

The SOT Career Advancement, Mentoring, and Networking (CAMAN) Committee invites toxicologists who are considering entering the job market, requesting a salary increase, or generally interested in improving soft skills to register for the upcoming CAMAN Career Development Series webinar “Interview, Salary Negotiations, and Soft Skills: Build Them Because You Need Them.” This is a question-and-answer session beginning at 12:00 noon (US EST, UTC -5) on Friday, November 8. Registration is free but required.

Bring your questions! A panel of mid- and senior-career toxicologists from government and industry will respond with their advice on interviewing, researching market salaries, negotiating salaries and benefits with finesse, and any other topics addressed by attendees.

The session will be moderated by Johnny Wise, University of Louisville, and Toufan Parman, Sangamo Therapeutic, Inc.

 

Panelists

Angela Curry

Angela Curry, MS, is Senior Toxicologist for the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, where she serves as a resource for staff regarding human health and chemical risk assessments. This includes conducting toxicological reviews and risk assessments as well as preparing technical reports and fact sheets on chemicals posing risks to human health or threats to the environment. Her degrees include a BS in biology with a chemistry minor and a MS in environmental toxicology. She is a member of SOT and also Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.

 

Christina de Zafra

Christina de Zafra, PhD, DABT, is Director, Drug Safety Research and Development, Pfizer. She received her PhD in toxicology from the University of Rochester and conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Colorado. She has been a part of the nonclinical toxicology departments at Genentech, Amgen, and Seagen, supporting development of multi-modality biotherapeutics (including mAbs, fusion proteins, ADCs, and oncolytic viruses) across a range of therapeutic areas and is now at Pfizer. Jer interests include product quality risk assessments and the 3Rs of ethical animal use, and she is an SOT member.

 

Alex Eapen

Alex Eapen, PhD, DABT, is the Director, Scientific and Regulatory Affairs, Cargill North America. He has over 25 years of experience as a toxicologist and risk assessor for US FDA–regulated products. Additionally, he is an adjunct faculty at the University of Minnesota College of Continuing and Professional studies. He serves on numerous academic advisory boards as well as several scientific and trade organizations representing the food industry. He is an SOT member.

 

CAMAN is planning another Career Development Series webinar for April 2025: “Career Transitions: Should I Stay, or Should I Go?” Erica Dahl and Toufan Parman will moderate this event, which will be targeted for those considering mid-career transitions.
