EFSA, US EPA, and USDA Seeking Expertise for Service on Advisory Panels and as Reviewers while the US FDA Looks into Scientific Gaps and HHS Requests Information on Health Equity for Intersex Individuals

Various advisory committees for government agencies in Europe and the US are currently seeking nominations for individuals to serve as members, while the US Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) is looking for reviewers for a draft report on its Transcriptomic Assessment Product. In addition, the US Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) is seeking information and experts to explore significant scientific gaps, and the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has requested information to help advance health equity for intersex individuals.

EFSA Scientific Committee and Scientific Panels

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) is looking for individuals to serve as experts on its Scientific Committee or one of its 10 Scientific Panels: (1) Animal Health and Welfare; (2) Biological Hazards; (3) Contaminants in the Food Chain; (4) Additives and Products or Substances Used in Animal Feed; (5) Genetically Modified Organisms; (6) Nutrition, Novel Foods, and Food Allergens; (7) Plant Health; (8) Plant Protection Products and Their Residues; (9) Food Additives and Flavourings; and (10) Food Contact Materials, Enzymes, and Processing Aids). The application deadline is April 3, 2023.

HHS Request for Information on Health Equity for Intersex Individuals

The HHS has issued a request for information to assist in the development of a report on advancing health equity for intersex individuals. Specifically, HHS is looking for information pertaining to these questions:

  1. What do you see as the current clinical, research, or policy gaps that you are hoping this report addresses?
  2. What recent or ongoing research, innovative clinical approaches or policy actions do you think is important for us to know about as we begin this work.

US EPA Review Panel for Draft Report on the US EPA Transcriptomic Assessment Product

The US EPA is seeking nominations for toxicological experts to serve on a review panel that will offer feedback on a “draft report on a case study that uses value of information analysis to weigh the public health and economic trade-offs associated with the timeliness, uncertainty, and costs of the draft EPA Transcriptomic Assessment Product (ETAP). The ETAP is a proposed ORD assessment product that utilizes a standardized short-term in vivo study design and data analysis procedures to develop transcriptomic-based toxicity values for data poor chemicals.” Nominations are due by March 3, 2023, and the panel is expected to complete its review from April to July 2023.

US FDA Regulatory Science Accelerator

The Reagan-Udall Foundation in collaboration with the US FDA has launched the Regulatory Science Accelerator to convene a series of conversations to engage the scientific community to identify the most pressing scientific gaps, emerging sciences and technologies, goals/objectives, and implementation strategy for regulatory science. The first series of meetings will focus on in silico alternative methods. Individuals interested in participating in this project should complete the corresponding questionnaire by March 1 You also can contact the Reagan-Udall Foundation with any questions.

USDA National Advisory Committee on Microbiological Criteria for Foods

The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) is seeking experts to serve on its National Advisory Committee on Microbiological Criteria for Foods. This advisory committee provides scientific advice and recommendations “on public health issues relative to the safety and wholesomeness of the US food supply, including development of microbiological criteria and review and evaluation of epidemiological and risk assessment data and methodologies for assessing microbiological hazards in foods.” Nominations are due by March 15.
