About the Workshops

SOT remains dedicated to improving science communication skills among its members. Through its collaboration with the Alan Alda Center, SOT sponsors two virtual workshops each year featuring The Essentials, the Alda Center’s core training program. Each interactive, three-hour workshop is limited to 24 participants to ensure an engaging and immersive experience.

The Alda Method emphasizes experiential learning, guided reflection, and peer feedback to transform participants communication skills. The workshop helps attendees develop techniques to connect with their audience, set clear communication goals, and craft compelling messages. Rather than just providing communication tips, this training fosters long-term skills applicable across all areas of scientific discourse.
