This blog is being shared on behalf of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) as part of a blog exchange between SETAC and SOT.

SETAC extends a warm invitation to members from SOT to the SETAC North America 46th Annual Meeting, which will be held November 16–20, 2025, in Portland, Oregon. The meeting will span five days and include oral and poster sessions, plenary talks, and lots of engaging networking opportunities. Participants are expected from academia, business, and government and non-governmental organizations.

SETAC leaders are very excited about the plenaries are lined up. To open the meeting, Amy Cordalis will discuss efforts of indigenous people to protect the Klamath River and their subsistence lifestyle. On the second day of the meeting, Kaci Buhl will share insights on risk communication that she has learned from her time leading the Statewide Pesticide Safety Education Program of Oregon. The last plenary will be by Paul Hessburg who will take attendees back several centuries and show how landscape resilience to wildfires was actively managed by Indigenous Peoples of the land.

The meeting will have a robust scientific program. Lots of exciting sessions have been proposed, just waiting for your abstracts. Secure your spot to share your work by submitting an abstract before the free abstract submission deadline at 5:00 pm (US PDT, UCT -7) on June 4. As a sample, here are a few sessions that may be of particulate interest to toxicologists and human health risk assessors:

New Approach Methodologies

  • Alternative Approaches and New Approach Methods (NAMs) That Refine, Replace, or Reduce Animal Testing

  • Beyond the Model Organism: New Approaches to Predicting Toxicity Across Species

  • Empirical and Theoretical Methods to Scale Contaminant Effects: Molecular Impacts to Organism Health

  • Innovative and Novel Applications of New Approach Methodologies: From Tool Development to Case Studies

  • QSAR Models and Tools in Environmental Toxicology and ChemistryUsing Molecular Tools and New Approach Methodologies to Assess Toxicity in Non-model Species

Human Health Risk Assessment

  • Advances in Human Health Risk Assessment

  • Beyond Direct Contact: Nontraditional Exposure Scenarios in Human Health Risk Assessment

  • Drop by Drop: Natural and Anthropogenic Drinking-Water Contaminant Exposures and Human Health Risk

  • Human Exposure to Organic Contaminants of Current and Emerging Concern

  • One Health: Contributions from Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry

Special Topics

  • Advancing Bioaccumulation Science: Novel Approaches and Challenges

  • Building Confidence in Omics Technologies

  • Immunotoxicological Investigations: From Molecules to Model Organisms

Learning about new scientific endeavors and networking with colleagues can spark innovative and novel ideas that can shape future research projects, collaborations, and careers. So please join us in the weird state of Oregon! Submit an abstract by 5:00 pm (US PDT, UTC -7) on June 4 (free) or June 11 ($50 rush fee). Registration for the meeting will open on July 9.
