Ever been about to head out the lab door for the day when your PI stops you, wanting to work just a little longer? SOT member Angela Slitt’s lab took this common experience, set it to a song from Hamilton, and created 30 seconds of joy (watch now on the new SOT TikTok account).
This inspired SOT to wonder what other aspects of scientific life are primed for a little good-natured teasing … and which lab, department, or workplace would best be able to capture them.
Hence, the SOT TikTox Video Challenge was born. Every few months, SOT will issue a video challenge, encouraging members to share their creative responses through all social media platforms. SOT will amplify these posts through reshares/posts on its networks.
First up—and inspired by the Slitt Lab—is a look at the PI/Student (or mentor/mentee) relationship. What does this relationship look like in your lab, department, or scientific workplace? Create a video and tag us on your socials for a reshare!
Also, it’s important to note that while all this is light-hearted and fun, it serves a very real purpose of humanizing science and scientists, encouraging interest in toxicology and the sciences, and building an online community of toxicologists.
