Do you know an individual who has made outstanding contributions to toxicology? SOT is now accepting nominations for two of its most prestigious honors: the Merit Award and the Distinguished Toxicology Scholar Award. These awards recognize individuals whose work has had a lasting and meaningful impact on toxicology research, education, regulation, and practice.

Merit Award

The Merit Award is presented to an SOT member in recognition of distinguished contributions to toxicology over the course of their career. These contributions may include scientific research, teaching, regulatory service, consulting, and leadership within the Society. The recipient will receive a plaque and cash stipend; will be invited to deliver the Merit Award Lecture during the SOT Annual Meeting and ToxExpo; and will be invited to present a lecture during a EUROTOX Congress.

Distinguished Toxicology Scholar Award

The Distinguished Toxicology Scholar Award honors an SOT member who has made substantial and seminal contributions to advancing the science of toxicology. This award emphasizes scientific achievement and is intended for individuals actively engaged in toxicological research. The award includes a plaque, a cash stipend, and the opportunity to present the Distinguished Toxicology Scholar Award Lecture during the SOT Annual Meeting and ToxExpo, providing a platform to share their scientific insights with the SOT community.

Making a Nomination

Nominations for both awards are due by October 9, 2025. Nominees must be SOT Full members and actively engaged in toxicological research. The nomination package must include:

  • A comprehensive CV (limited to 10 pages)
  • A nomination letter from a Full SOT member
  • A seconding letter from another Full SOT member (may be signed by multiple individuals or on behalf of a Component Group)

The nomination letters should clearly articulate the nominee’s contributions to toxicology and explain the significance of their impact. SOT encourages nominations from all sectors and career stages. Nominees will be evaluated within the context of their professional background, discipline, and available opportunities.

For more information on making a nomination, please review the “Awards Review Process and FAQs” web page. Please direct any inquiries to SOT Headquarters.
