Recognize Innovation and Impact: Nominate Individuals for the 2026 SOT Achievement and Leading Edge in Basic Science Awards

SOT is excited to recognize recent, high-impact contributions to toxicology through the Achievement Award and the Leading Edge in Basic Science Award. These honors showcase exceptional accomplishments in research and scientific discovery and reflect the continued advancement of the field. 

Achievement Award 

The Achievement Award honors an SOT member who has made significant contributions to toxicology within 15 years of earning their highest degree. This award recognizes emerging leaders whose work is already shaping the future of the field. The recipient will receive a plaque and a cash stipend during the SOT Annual Meeting Awards Ceremony.

Leading Edge in Basic Science Award 

The Leading Edge in Basic Science Award recognizes a scientist, SOT member or nonmember, whose research conducted in the past five years has significantly advanced the understanding of the fundamental mechanisms of toxicity. This award honors recent, influential science with broad relevance and potential for lasting impact. The recipient will receive a plaque and a cash stipend and will be invited to deliver the Leading Edge in Basic Science Award Lecture during the SOT Annual Meeting and ToxExpo. 

Making a Nomination 

Nominations for both awards are due by October 9, 2025. Each nomination must include: 
  • A primary and a secondary nomination letter from Full SOT members 
  • An up-to-date CV for the nominee (limited to 10 pages) 
Nomination letters should clearly describe the nominee’s contributions and how they align with the specific criteria of the award. Letters should be distinct from one another and provide specific, substantive examples of the nominee’s work and its significance. The seconding letter may be signed by multiple individuals or submitted on behalf of an SOT Component Group. All nominations will be reviewed based on the nominee’s individual accomplishments and impact.  
SOT welcomes nominations from across career stages, sectors, and backgrounds. All candidates will be evaluated within the context of their career path and opportunities.

Preference will be given to nominees who have not received any of the following SOT Awards in the past two years: Achievement, Arnold J. Lehman, Distinguished Toxicology Scholar, Education, Enhancement of Animal Welfare, Founders, Leading Edge in Basic Science, Merit, Public Communications, Toxicologist Mentoring, Translational Impact, and Undergraduate Educator Awards.
