SOT is proud to recognize members who make lasting contributions to toxicology through innovative practices and impactful outreach. The SOT Enhancement of Animal Welfare Award and the SOT Public Communications Award highlight individuals whose work has advanced both the science and the understanding of toxicology. If you know someone deserving, now is the time to nominate them for these prestigious honors.

Enhancement of Animal Welfare Award

The SOT Enhancement of Animal Welfare Award honors SOT members who have significantly advanced toxicological science by developing and implementing methods that replace, refine, or reduce the use of experimental animals. This award also celebrates efforts to raise awareness about the ethical and responsible use of animals in research. Whether through a single groundbreaking achievement or career-long dedication, this award recognizes those who have elevated both the science and ethics of toxicology.

Public Communications Award

The SOT Public Communications Award is presented to individuals who have excelled in raising public awareness of toxicological issues, including the role of experimental animals in research. Recipients may be recognized for impactful work across books, articles, educational initiatives, or media outreach. This award honors those who have successfully engaged the public, helping to demystify toxicology and communicate its importance in society.

Nominate a Deserving Candidate

The deadline for nominations for both the Enhancement of Animal Welfare Award and the Public Communications Award is October 9. Each nomination must include a primary and secondary letter of nomination from SOT Full members. The strongest nominations provide detailed, complementary letters that paint a full picture of the nominee’s achievements.

In addition, a current CV of the nominee (limited to 10 pages) is required. This document should highlight the nominee’s most significant professional achievements relevant to the award criteria. Please note that only the first 10 pages of the CV will be reviewed.

For more information on making a nomination, please review the “Awards Review Process and FAQs” web page of the SOT website. Please direct any inquiries to SOT Headquarters.

Preference will be given to nominees who have not received one of the following SOT Awards in the past two years: Achievement, Arnold J. Lehman, Distinguished Toxicology Scholar, Education, Enhancement of Animal Welfare, Founders, Leading Edge in Basic Science, Merit, Public Communications, Toxicologist Mentoring, Translational Impact, and Undergraduate Educator Awards.
