Abstract Deadline for the Society for Birth Defects and Prevention Annual Meeting Is February 15

The 64th Annual Meeting of the Society for Birth Defects Research and Prevention will take place June 22–26, 2024, in the vibrant city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The theme for this year’s meeting is “Addressing Disparities in Birth Defects Research and Prevention.”

Plenary lecturers include:

  • Christina D. Chambers, PhD, University of California San Diego
  • Wendy K. Chung, MD, PhD, Boston Children’s Hospital
  • Tracey Woodruff, PhD, University of California San Francisco

Scientific Session topics include:

  • Chemicals Altering Signaling Molecules and Developmental Pathways
  • Congenital Anomalies in Minoritized Populations: An Overview of Factors Affecting Prevalence and Outcomes
  • DART Strategies for Oligonucleotides
  • Developmental Neuropathology in Rodents: Chemicals versus Pediatric Pharmaceuticals
  • Genetic and Environmental Factors Driving Facial Morphology and Dysmorphology
  • Neural Tube Defects in a Post-Folate Fortified World
  • New Approaches to Elucidate Contributors to Placental Dysfunction

Continuing Education course topics are:

  • The Role of the Microbiome in Normal and Abnormal Development*
  • Stem Cells: The Role and Promise in Birth Defects Research*
  • Climate Change: Heat and Wildfires (mini course)

Abstracts are due February 15. Finalists for the BDRP Innovator Award will be selected from the abstracts submitted. Trainees whose abstracts are accepted are eligible for travel awards. Full program details, abstract submission instructions, the travel award application, and more may be found on the meeting website.

*These two Continuing Education courses will be recorded and made available to course registrants on demand after the Annual Meeting. As such, individuals who cannot travel to Pittsburgh for the meeting but wish to benefit from these continuing education opportunities are encouraged to register using the Education Course–Only option.
